Dysphagia

Dysphagia is the medical term used to describe difficulty in swallowing, which, in some cases, may be associated with pain. It is a common symptom of many diseases. Occasionally it may occur due to insufficient chewing of food, without cause for concern. Persistent dysphagia can be, on the other hand, a severe medical condition that requires urgent treatment. If you find it difficult to swallow because you feel food trapped in your throat or chest, you should go to the emergency department. Some neurological conditions and/or tumors can cause a weakening of the throat muscles, which may result in choking or feeling that fluid or food is passing into the nose or airway.
