Adhesions or Adherences (TMJ)

Adhesions or adherences are fibrous junctions inside a joint that occur as a consequence to joint inflammation resulting from direct trauma, excessive loading or systemic diseases, namely polyarthritis. When these affect the temporomandibular joint or TMJ - the joint in front of the ear - a loss of jaw mobility without joint noise is associated. These may be present only on one side and cause an asymmetric jaw or chin deviation during movements.

If you have any of these symptoms and suspect you may suffer from temporomandibular joint adhesions or adherences, schedule an appointment with one of our Occlusion specialized dentists or contact us.
